Yes, if they want to be. Because Prosper's group model helps keep loan
defaults low, their presence creates value in the marketplace. This
value allows groups to be compensated. Prosper compensates group
leaders based on the repayment performance of the group. The group
leader determines whether the compensation is shared with the group or
kept by the group leader.
Group leaders can earn money in two ways. First, through a "match
reward" each time a loan request from a borrower in the group is
matched with a lender. There is also a monthly "payment reward", paid
each time a borrower in the group makes an on-time loan payment. The
better repayment performance of the group members, the more money the
